O Silver-cheeked Beauty! – Abdur Rahman’s Corner
Peace, one and all…
O silver-cheeked beauty, give some of that wine which is as precious as gold
so that the heart might be illuminated and the light of the eyes might increase.
In spite of the village’s sober citizens, pass around that royal goblet so that
the body might become as soul and the night like the dawn.
Since you have disturbed our sleep, then at least give some of that divine wine,
for it is not befitting your generosity to close both doors on your creation.
O you who have drunk from the cup of the Bounteous One, you have no cause for complaint.
Remember – the one who is thankful succeeds – and the one who is ungrateful is destroyed!
My honky-tonk hero, you are always drunk and hung-over!
O loser, why are you always heaping such calumny upon him?
