Dubai Police calls on drivers to be cautious in rainy weather – UAE
Dubai Police has called on drivers to be cautious on the roads due to the rainy weather conditions that are currently prevailing in the country.
The police urged drivers to follow all preventive measures and fully comply with traffic laws and regulations, including reducing speed, leaving enough safe distance in these conditions, not being distracted by anything other than the road, and not taking the risk of going down to wadis for the purpose of taking pictures or chasing rain, as this is very dangerous. The police also warned against driving vehicles recklessly, recklessly, and showing off.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, urged drivers to use warning signals in case of a vehicle breakdown, and to move it to the outside of the road to avoid obstructing traffic or being involved in traffic accidents. He also urged drivers not to use hazard lights (“four-way signals”) except in the event of an emergency, warning that using these signals while the vehicle is moving will prevent the driver from using them in an emergency, and from using them to determine the direction of their travel at the same time.
He noted the importance of being cautious and reducing speed on external roads, in addition to checking the safety of all parts of the vehicle, including its engine, tires, brakes, windshield wipers, and lighting. He also warned against sudden stops without giving the appropriate signal, and the importance of leaving enough distance behind the vehicle in front, using a seat belt, not using phones to take pictures or being distracted by anything other than the road, staying in the lane and not changing lanes except in cases of emergency, reducing speed and paying attention at turns and in low-lying areas and open roads due to the possibility of accumulation of water in those areas.
He called on vehicle drivers to use windshield wipers while driving on the road to prevent accumulation of water that obstructs vision, and to get rid of the fog that accumulates on the windows inside the vehicle. He stressed the importance of the driver expecting a hazard at any moment, such as a sudden stop of the vehicle in front, or the entry of another vehicle from a side turning, and that he must be fully prepared to avoid this hazard.
He explained that the law punishes driving a vehicle in a manner that exposes the life of the driver or the lives of others or their safety or security to danger, or driving a vehicle in a manner that may cause damage to public or private facilities. In these cases, drivers will be stopped, their vehicles will be impounded, and they will be referred to the judiciary to take legal action against them. The police will not tolerate any leniency in dealing with perpetrators of this type of dangerous violations.
