LHC Summons IGP On Khadija Shahs Contempt Plea

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th Oct, 2023) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday summoned the inspector general of police (IGP) Punjab for November 3 on a contempt petition, filed by fashion designer Khadija Shah, against police high-ups over her arrest in a third case related to May-9 violence despite her bail in two cases.
The single bench comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard the contempt petition, filed by the fashion designer. Khadija Shah had approached the court for initiating contempt proceedings against the police high-ups. She submitted that the police had informed the LHC that she was named in only two cases, but after the LHC division bench granted her bail in the cases, the police arrested her in the Rahat Bakery arson case.
During the Friday proceedings, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, along with other police officers, appeared before the court. In response to a court query, he stated that the report about details of cases against the petitioner was given by the IGP Punjab.
At this stage, a law officer apprised that Khadija Shah was initially involved in two cases, but further evidence surfaced against her later on.
However, the court expressed dissatisfaction over the situation and summoned the IGP Punjab in personal capacity for November 3.
In a previous hearing, the court had summoned the CCPO to explain his position after terming his report about the arrest of Khadija Shah in the third case unsatisfactory.
Earlier, the CCPO had informed the court that the police arrested Khadija Shah in the third case in the light of statements of three accused, who were recently arrested in connection with May-9 violence. The accused claimed that Khadija Shah incited them to create law and order situation in case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan‘s arrest on May-9, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that an LHC division bench had granted post-arrest bail to Khadija Shah in cases of attacks on Jinnah House and Askari tower.
