When we lose something important, it can be a stressful and frustrating experience, especially when we cannot find it after searching every nook and cranny. But if you pray sincerely for the lost item, Allah will reward you with a miracle, and you might get it back.
Allah SWT said in Surah Al-Anfal, Ayat 46,
“Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not dispute with one another, or you would be discouraged and weakened. Persevere! Surely Allah is with those who persevere.”
So, when something is lost be patient and make the following dua,
Pronounce: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”
Meaning: “We indeed belong to ALLAH, and we indeed toward Him are returning.”
Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recited this dua when he lost something:
اللهُمَّ رَادَّ الضَّالَّةِ، وَهَادِيَ الضَّلَالَةِ تَهْدِي مِنَ الضَّلَالَةِ، ارْدُدْ عَلَيَّ ضَالَّتِي بِقُدْرَتِكِ وَسُلْطَانِكَ، فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ عَطَائِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ
Pronounce: “Allahumma radd ad-dallati, wa hadiyad dalalati tahdi min ad-dalalati, urdud ‘alayya dallati bi qudratika wa sultanika fa innaha min ‘ata-ika wa fadlika”
Meaning: “O Allah! The Returner of the lost and Guide of those astray, You are the Being who will show the right way out of misguidance, return my lost property to me with Your power and command because it is from Your gift and favour [to me].”
You can also recite Surah Al Khaf, Ayat 24 (100 times), but first, recite Darood five times, then this ayat,
Meaning: “Except (with the saying), “If Allah will!” And remember your Lord when you forget and say: “It may be that my Lord guides me unto a nearer way of truth than this.”
What Should I Do If Something Goes Missing?
Losing something valuable can be a distressing experience, stirring many emotions. In times of distress, Islam provides a comforting framework to help believers cope with challenges. The following are some steps you can take to find the lost item:
1. Take a Deep Breath
The initial reaction to losing something is often panic and anxiety. But Islam encourages believers to remain calm in the face of adversity. Taking a deep breath allows you to regain composure and approach the situation.
Remember that patience is highly regarded in Islam, and facing difficulties with steadfastness is an act of worship.
2. Regroup Your Emotions
After taking a moment to compose yourself, it is essential to regroup your emotions. Seek refuge in Allah from negative feelings and remember that everything happens by the will of Allah.
The Quran states, “And seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is a burden except for the humble—those who are certain that they will meet their Lord and to Him they will return.” [Quran 2:45-46]
You can also seek Allah’s refuge by reading one of the above Dua in regular prayer. By regaining control over your emotions, you pave the way for a more focused and rational approach to finding the lost item.
3. Recite a Dua to Find the Item
Dua, or supplication, is a powerful tool in Islam for seeking Allah’s guidance and help. When something is lost, turn to Allah with a sincere heart and recite the following dua:
“Bismillahi, ma shaa’Allahu laa yadurru ma’asmihi shay’un fil ardi wa laa fis-samaa’i wa Huwaas-Samee’ul-‘Aleem.”
This dua acknowledges the greatness of Allah and seeks His assistance in finding what is lost. Remember to recite this dua sincerely while searching, and have faith that Allah SWT, the All-Knowing, can help you find it.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both.” [Sunan Ibn Majah 79]
4. Retrace Your Steps
Practical steps are also encouraged in Islam. Retracing your steps is a method recommended by Prophet Muhammad himself (peace be upon him). Carefully revisit the places you have been since the last time you had the lost item.
Sometimes, retracing your steps with mindfulness can lead you to the overlooked location of the lost item.
A Dua’s Power for Seeking Help and Finding Lost Items
There is no way to underestimate the power of Dua to Allah. It is a means of communicating with Allah, seeking help, and expressing gratitude. Losing something valuable can create a sense of helplessness and anxiety. But don’t worry; finding lost items can offer comfort and solace.
Maintaining faith and reciting dua with the correct intention and focus is essential. We hope this article has helped you learn about this powerful supplication and its meaning. We sincerely believe Allah grants us success in finding our lost item and always guides us on the righteous path.
