#MuslimGirlRamadanBookClub Day Six: Juz Six Takeaways
Al-Anam deepens many of the understandings and foundations set in the chapter before it. The Juz goes into detail about the permissibility of foods, the power, and knowledge of God, along with the repercussions for rejecting the truth, and the nature of prophethood and God’s will. But for our #MuslimGirlRamadanBookClub reflections on Juz six, we want to single out the verses that spotlight the test of life and Allah’s supreme power.
Here are my main takeaways from Juz six, Al-Anam.
The test of life
Throughout the Quran, you will find that Allah SWT tells us that life is a test, this Juz taps into how life is nothing but “play and amusement” and that we were placed on Earth in varying capacities to prove so. He will test with what He has given each person.
This worldly life is no more than play and amusement, but far better is the eternal home of the Hereafter for those mindful of God.
— Quran (6:32)
It also reminds us that the life we are presently living on Earth is only temporary. The Hereafter does not compare to this worldly life as it is infinitely better for those who believe in Allah SWT.
The authority of Allah and his power
Allah SWT is the supreme authoritative figure. He is capable of everything and nothing happens without the will of God. Therefore, God provides guidance to those he wishes to.
Ask then, O Prophet, “Imagine if God were to take away your hearing or sight, or seal your hearts – who else other than God could restore it?” See O Prophet how we vary the signs, yet they still turn away.
— Quran (6:46)
God’s power and capacity is unlike anyone or anything else. Only Allah SWT has the ability to ease hardship in your life. It is a helpful reminder that as Muslims we should always turn to Allah SWT in our times of distress.
Believing in Allah’s words
The Quran is the perfect book as it is regarded as the truth, which is why believing in the hereafter is one of the pillars of faith in Islam. The denial of the Hereafter is against Islam as believing that this worldly life is temporary is a key aspect of the faith.
This is a blessed Book which We have revealed – confirming what came before it – so you may warn the Mother of Cities and everyone around it. Those who believe in the Hereafter truly believe in it and guard their prayers.
— Quran (6:92)
The Quran is the divine revelation and it is welcoming to all. It is blessed because we are able to connect to God directly through His words.
The Juz, Al-Anam emphasizes God’s supreme reign and declares that this worldly life is nothing but a test. This encourages Muslims to be reflective of their actions and intentions. It encourages us to follow the rulings outlined throughout the Quran, seek the guidance and forgiveness of Allah SWT, and understand that the life around us is temporary and our final destination is the Hereafter.
Today’s MuslimGirlRamadanBookClub reflections on Juz six are the pinnacle of our moral compass as Muslims.
