Newly Married? These 3 Duas Are Your Marriage Cheat Code
Marriage is a sacred bond, a partnership built on love, trust, and faith. In Islam, marriage is celebrated with heartfelt prayers and supplications (duas) to invite Allah’s blessings, guidance, and protection into the couple’s life. Whether you’re attending a wedding, starting your own marital journey, or simply want to share meaningful duas, here are three essential supplications every newlywed couple should know.
1. Dua for congratulations and blessings
When congratulating a newly married couple, it’s recommended to recite the following supplication (dua) from the Hadith:
Arabic: بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ، وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ، وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ
Transliteration: Bārakallāhu laka, wa bāraka ‘alayka, wa jama’a baynakumā fī khayr.
Translation: “May Allah bless you, send blessings upon you, and may He unite both of you in goodness.”
This dua is derived from a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, where the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would congratulate a couple by saying these words.
2. Dua for the wedding night
The wedding night marks the beginning of a new chapter for the couple. On this special night, it’s recommended for the husband to place his hand on his wife’s head and recite the following supplication:
Arabic: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَخَيْرَ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ مَا جَبَلْتَهَا عَلَيْهِ
Transliteration: Allāhumma innī as’aluka khayrahā wa khayra mā jabaltahā ‘alayhi, wa a’ūdhu bika min sharrihā wa min sharri mā jabaltahā ‘alayhi.
Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for her goodness and the goodness upon which You have created her, and I seek refuge with You from her evil and the evil upon which You have created her.”
This dua seeks Allah’s blessings, guidance, and protection as you begin your marital life.
3. Dua for righteous offspring
One of the hopes of marriage is to build a family filled with love and piety. If you want to pray for righteous and healthy children, say this beautiful supplication from Surah Al-Imran (3:38):
Arabic: رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ
Transliteration: Rabbi habli min ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibatan innaka sami’ud-dua.
Translation: “My Lord, grant me good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of Supplication.”
This dua reflects a heartfelt desire for future generations to be a source of joy, faith, and goodness.
Marriage is not just a union of two people but a foundation for building a faithful and loving family. These duas serve as powerful reminders to invite Allah’s blessings into every stage of marital life. Whether you’re a newlywed or celebrating a loved one’s wedding, these prayers are timeless gifts that carry immense spiritual significance.
May Allah bless all marriages with love, mercy, and lasting happiness. Ameen.
