Day 8: Reflecting On The Names Of Allah – Al-Khafid, Ar-Rafi’, Al-Mu’izz
Al-Khafid, Ar-Rafi’, Al-Mu’izz
Every day, as I reflect on Allah’s beautiful names, I begin to see the patterns of His divine wisdom unfold in my life. Some days bring ease, while others bring trials. Some moments lift me up, while others humble me. But through it all, I find comfort in knowing that every rise and fall is by the decree of the One who manages all affairs with absolute justice and wisdom. Today, I reflect on three names of Allah that remind me that honor, status, and power are in His hands alone.
Al-Khafid – The One Who Lowers
In life, we see people rise to power and then fall from it. We see arrogance shattered, and we see the mighty humbled. Al-Khafid is the One who lowers whomever He wills, not out of injustice, but out of divine wisdom. Sometimes, He lowers a person to protect them from their own arrogance, and sometimes, He humbles them to bring them closer to Him.
“And We have certainly destroyed generations before you when they wronged, and their messengers had come to them with clear proofs, but they would not believe. Thus do We recompense the criminal people.” (Quran 10:13)
This reminds me to stay humble. No success, status, or authority is permanent. If Allah grants me something, I should be grateful. If He takes something away, I should reflect and turn back to Him.
Ar-Rafi’ – The One Who Elevates
Just as Allah lowers, He also raises. Ar-Rafi’ is the One who elevates people—sometimes in status, sometimes in wealth, and most importantly, in righteousness and closeness to Him. True honor is not in worldly achievements, but in the love of Ar-Rafi’.
“We raise in degrees whom We will, but over every possessor of knowledge is one [more] knowing.” (Quran 12:76)
When I feel unseen or unappreciated, I remind myself that Allah is the One who elevates. He knows my struggles, my sincerity, and my efforts. The world’s recognition is temporary, but being raised in the sight of Ar-Rafi’ is eternal.
Al-Mu’izz – The Giver of Honor
There are moments when we see people rise in status unexpectedly. We see someone who was once overlooked become successful. We see respect given to those who were once dishonored. This is the rehmat of of Al-Mu’izz, the One who grants honor to whom He wills.
“Say, ‘O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will, and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will, and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.’” (Quran 3:26)
This reminds me that honor does not come from people—it comes from Allah alone. No matter how much I seek approval from others, the only approval that truly matters is from Al-Mu’izz.
Reflection
These three names remind me that Allah is The One who lowers (Al-Khafid), The One who elevates (Ar-Rafi’), and The Giver of Honor (Al-Mu’izz). My status in this world is temporary, but my position in the sight of Allah is what truly matters.
Ya Al-Khafid, keep me humble and protect me from arrogance.
Ya Ar-Rafi’, elevate me in righteousness and closeness to You.
Ya Al-Mu’izz, grant me honor through faith and sincerity.
