Monthly Talk: Modern Readings of the Qur’an through a Gendered Lens
This lecture will explore the tension between patriarchal and egalitarian readings of verses in the Qur’an that concern women and provide an overview of the critiques launched by modern Muslim women scholars against the androcentric views of many premodern male exegetes. The lecture will conclude with my own assessment of these positions based on a holistic reading of the Qur’an.
