A new historical exhibition titled “The Hijrah in the Footsteps of the Messenger ﷺ” has been inaugurated next to the Quba Mosque in Madinah.
The opening ceremony was led by the Emir of the Madinah Region, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan, in the presence of the Deputy Emir of the Makkah Region, His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, and His Excellency Advisor Turki Al Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority.
The exhibition offers visitors a profound historical journey, tracing the path of the Prophet’s migration (Hijrah) from Makkah to Madinah.
Designed to be both educational and immersive, the exhibition features 14 interactive stations employing modern technologies, crafted by a team of more than 70 artists from over 20 countries.
Visitors can explore 53 archaeological artifacts, alongside rare photographs, documents, maps, and Islamic manuscripts that bring the Prophetic biography to life.
The exhibition allows guests to follow the migration route within an organized framework.
His Excellency Counselor Turki Al Al-Sheikh outlined the ambitious vision behind the project. “The ‘On His Footsteps’ project represents an important step in enhancing the historical and cultural experience in the Kingdom,” he stated. He revealed that the first phase targets one million visitors, with goals to reach five million visitors by 2030. Studies are already underway to potentially expand capacity to ten million visitors in the future.
Infrastructure developments are also planned to improve visitor access. A cable car system is being installed in the Thawr Cave area, designed to transport up to three thousand people per hour, facilitating visits to key sites along the Hijrah route.
Beyond its cultural and religious significance, the project is expected to generate substantial economic opportunities. The first phase alone is projected to create approximately 25 thousand jobs, with potential growth to 200 thousand direct and indirect jobs in the future.
Recruitment will be managed through the Emirates of Madinah and Makkah Regions in coordination with Sela Company, accompanied by specialized training courses aligned with Sharia regulations.
