Under The Intellect’s Tutelage – Abdur Rahman’s Corner
Peace, one and all…
Abu Bakr al-Qahtabi said:
‘What intellects manage to master is under their sway, except with respect to the fundamental evidence; for if God had not graciously disclosed Himself to them, intellects would never have noticed the fundamental evidence in the first place’. Sources pass on to us the words of an eminent Sufi (Hallaj):
Anyone who searches for God under the intellect’s tutelage
God consigns to mindless self-absorption.
Corrupted by the deceptions of the innermost self,
the seeker asks in utter bewilderment, ‘Does He exist?’
