These Duas From the Quran and Hadith Will Help You Attain Financial Abundance
Well, I was just at Jummah Prayer and the imam was teaching us how when facing defeat we should not resign ourselves to reward in the akhira but focus on how we can better ourselves in the dounya. That includes seeking refuge in Allah (SWT) through duas to attain financial abundance.
Dua for financial abundance from the Quran
Of course, when something is an issue of finances, the first thing to remember is that focusing on the dounya at the expense of the akhira is punished by Allah (SWT.)
Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:
When you have fulfilled your sacred rites, praise Allah as you used to praise your forefathers ˹before Islam˺, or even more passionately. There are some who say, “Our Lord! Grant us ˹Your bounties˺ in this world,” but they will have no share in the Hereafter. Yet there are others who say, “Our Lord! Grant us the good of this world and the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.” It is they who will receive a ˹heavenly˺ reward for the good they have done. And Allah is swift in reckoning.
— Quran (2:200-202)
The dua in Arabic is:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Transliteration: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan, wa fil-akhirati hasanatan, wa qina ‘adhab-annar.
Many of us know and say this dua regularly. However, I have heard it said that it is merciful of Allah (SWT) that the ayah is written this way, partly because Allah (SWT) does not burden us with making us pray first or only for the akhira. He knows we tend to focus on worldly things fairly often, so He lets us pray first for the dounya. We just have to continue including the akhira to be successful.
As we pray for life in the dounya, remember to keep it in our hands, not our hearts. As people say, the dounya is like an ocean – if you sail on top of it you can accomplish much; but if you drink it too deeply, you will drown in it.
Dua for overall success from the hadith
With this in mind, what should we do to succeed in the dounya? There are some straightforward duas to say that provide great relief for us as believers.
The first, and best dua that I have used comes from a story of a man supplicating in the masjid in the time of the Prophet (PBUH.) The hadith is as follows:
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri told of a man who said to God’s messenger that he was entangled in cares and debts. He replied, “Shall I not teach you words by which, when you say them, God will remove your care and settle your debt?” And when the man expressed a desire to hear them he told him to say morning and evening, “O God, I seek refuge in Thee from care and grief; I seek refuge in Thee from incapacity and slackness; I seek refuge in Thee from miserliness and cowardice; I seek refuge in Thee from being overcome by debt and being put in subjection by men.” He said that God removed his care and settled his debt when he did.
— Abu Dawud, “Mishkat al-Masabih,” 2448
The dua in Arabic is:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْهَمِّ وَالْحُزْنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ
Transliteration: Allahumma innee a’uzubika min alham wa alhuzn wa al’ajz wa alkusl wa albukhl wa aljubn wa galbah aldayn wa Galbah alrijaal.
This dua is very simple and easy to memorize. Interestingly, it also is a mental health dua, as it includes the idea that cares and worries are dragging us down. We seek refuge from care and grief as much as anything else, so this is particularly good if we are stressed and overwhelmed with worry to the point of depression, anxiety, or other mental distress.
Another amazing dua is to stay away from the haram and be content with the halal. The hadith is as follows:
It was narrated from Ali (RA) that a mukatib (slave who had entered into a contract of manumission) came to him and said: “I am unable to pay off my manumission; help me.” He said: “Shall I not tell you some words which the Messenger of Allah taught me? And if you have debt like the mountain of Seer, Allah will pay it off for you.” He said: “Say: ‘O Allah! Provide me with lawful (Halal) livelihood, adequate to my needs instead of the unlawful (Haram), and make me suffice with Your graces needing nothing from anyone else‘”
— “Musnad Ahmad,” 1319, graded “weak” by Darussalam
The dua in Arabic is:
اللّهُمَّ اكْفِني بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرامِك، وَأَغْنِني بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِواك
Transliteration: Allaahumma akfini bi halallika ‘an haraamika,wa aghnini bi fadlika ‘amman siwaka
These two dua have been life-savers for me. It is important to remember that the other keys to financial abundance include regular charity and avoiding riba (covered in the above due about avoiding haram rizq).
Using Asma Al Husna to call upon Allah (SWT)
Another important form of dua which is very near and dear to my heart is reciting the names of Allah (SWT) which brings abundance. Two of these duas, when said in abundance, expand rizq. They are Ya Malik ul Mulk, the king of the kingdom, and Ya Dhul Jalali wal Ikram, the one who has all the greatness. Saying these 100 times a day, particularly during Ramadan, is a wonderful invocation for abundance and helps in financial distress.
The book “Key to the Treasure of Jannah” relates:
“The Owner of Sovereignty” whoever is habitual of reading “Ya Malikul Mulku” Allah (SWT) will make them wealthy, independent of people, and not dependent on anyone.
“The Possessor of Majesty and Benevolence” whoever recites “Ya Ziljalale Wal Ikraam” constantly, Allah (SWT) will grant him honor, dignity, and self-sufficiency.
Two other names of Allah (SWT) that are good to recite during dhikr are Ya Ghani and Ya Mughani.
Sheik Tosun Bayrak wrote a wonderful book called “The Name and the Named,” which is very useful. He encourages the recitation of the ayah “Allah is Gentle with his servants, he sustains whomsoever he wills, and he is the strong, the mighty.” nine times every day for blessings. The recitation of the name “Ya Latif,” is a powerful name to make dua with for abundance.
Additionally, while this is not necessarily a dua, unless you can memorize it in its entirety, Surah Waqiah is the surah for abundance. Listening to it often is good.
May Allah bless you with abundance and expand your sustenance with His Mercy! Ya Razzaq!
