Humanising Rumi – The Islamic College
Synopsis: There is a tendency in some circles to venerate Iranian Sufis and literary heroes as if they were flawless. A close reading of early Mevlevi texts reveals a different dimension of Rumi. It is one that seems to prevaricate and dither Hamlet style, and one that doubts the worth of his own ghazals. There are glimpses of Rumi the man, full if the prejudices and preconceived ideas of his times.
